Ever since the Olympic Games have been announced for London there has been the idea of organising a major chess event in London in 2012. It was never thought to hold it at the same time as the games; any publicity would be likely to be submerged. The first idea was to hold the Chess Olympiads here. That was never a likely project to succeed. The costs are too high and England is unlikely to shine in 2012.
Edward Winter's Chess Explorations (2) – now a prize quiz
17.05.2008 – The positions presented by the Editor of Chess Notes have proved so intriguing that the feature is now transformed into a prize quiz, with two positions added. The sender of the best solutions will receive a copy of Vishy Anand’s book My Best Games of Chess, personally inscribed to the winner by the world champion. There are signed consolation prizes too. Let battle begin.
The Live Top List is an unofficial chess rating list that intends to cover all players with a current, live rating above 2700 in the FIDE rating system. The official FIDE list is published 4 times each year, while this list is updated and published as games and tournaments are being played, typically with daily updates during tournaments featuring top players. The list is maintained by Hans Arild Runde.
